The place I live right now is not my hometown. The place I live is pathetictown when it comes down to it. Despite living here 10+ years I feel no connection, no loyalty, no pride whatsoever. My hometown is the one I grew up in, lived there from 1980 to 1998. It's not even worth mentioning. My hometown was is and always will be a pathetictown too.
SO... instead I'll tell you about the tiny little dot on the US map called New Jersey. You can drive from one end to the other in about 20 minutes if you drive fast enough. Well, unless you encounter construction. Which you always will. Here's some interesting facts...
* North Jersey is the car theft capital of the world, with more cars stolen in Newark then any other city.
Even the 2 largest cities, NYC and LA put together.
* The Passaic river was the site to the first submarine ride by inventor John P. Holland.
* The Passaic River is actually filled with sewage, not water.
* New Jersey has the most diners in the world.
* The light bulb, phonograph (record player), motion picture projector were invented by Thomas Edison in his Menlo Park laboratory. The first tin-foil phonograph developed by Edison was crude, but it proved his point-- that sound could be recorded and played back. Thomas Edison had phonograph demonstrations and became world-renowned as the "Wizard of Menlo Park" for this invention.
* New Jersey has the largest petroleum containment area outside of the Middle East countries.
* Approximately 87% of New Jersey's residents are Bruce Springsteen fans.
* New Jersey has the tallest water tower in the world. (It's in Union, I took a leak on it. Yes, I urinated on the tallest water tower in the world, beat that.)
* (I Love this one personally.) New Jersey has 108 toxic waste dumps, the most in any one state in the nation.
* The official state motto is "GO F*CK YOURSELF!"
* Modern paleontology, the science of studying dinosaur fossils, began in 1858 with the discovery of the first nearly complete skeleton of a dinosaur in Haddonfield, New Jersey. The Hadrosaurus is the official New Jersey state dinosaur.
* The transistor was developed at Bell Laboratories in1948.
* The 1st FM station broadcast from Alpine, NJ.
* There is a state law that all NJ residents must know quotes from at least one Kevin Smith movie.
Interesting stuff! All true, but what still remains a mystery is the truth concerning the Jersey Devil.
It's a load of crap, you might think at first, but consider these events in 1909:
